Design by Alicia Ravetto
Alicia Ravetto Architect PA is a small minority/woman owned business since 1997, NC HUB vendor and City of Raleigh MWOB specializing in green and sustainable architecture. The focus is on a design approach that integrates advanced building technologies with clean renewable energy to achieve more comfortable, durable, affordable and environmentally sound buildings.
Alicia Ravetto, a registered architect in NC, member of the American Institute of Architects, LEED AP, LEED Faculty and co-founder of GreenPros (providing green building training), combines design skills and experience in working with planning and design groups on energy efficiency, conservation, and clean renewable energy to achieve more sustainable practices in buildings.
Education is critical if we are going to impact the way buildings are designed and built today. Alicia is committed to designing buildings that will help cut down carbon emissions into the atmosphere and she has adopted the 2030 Challenge.
To meet the 2030 Challenge we must not only design high-performance and carbon neutral buildings but advocate actions that will require all buildings and developments to meet these targets as well (through building codes, government regulations and legislation).

Bushnell Home, designed by James Morgan
James Morgan – Residential Designer
BellaDomus
304 W. Weaver St.
Carrboro, NC 27510
James Morgan completed his professional degree in architecture at Plymouth Polytechnic in England in 1984 and subsequently worked in the well-respected practices of Louis De Soissons Partnership and Marshman Warren Taylor in England and James Stageberg Architects in Minneapolis. On settling in North Carolina, James chose to focus on custom residential single-family projects, commencing practice as James Morgan Designer in 1992 and subsequently incorporating the growing business as BellaDomus Inc. in 2002.
James traces a major root of his architectural sensibility to the stark stone walls and expressive forms of old mine and quarry buildings in the Cornwall of his youth, and to the intimate connection and involvement of these buildings with the by turns rugged and gentle landscape. Reading Frank Lloyd Wright’s “The Future of Architecture” at an impressionable age was a major turning point in James’ life, and Wright continues to be an architectural hero.
He is married to artist Monica Ferrell and has a grown daughter, actress Cerris Morgan-Moyer. He has a longtime involvement with civic and community affairs in Carrboro, as a board member of Weaver Street Market since 1996 and a member (former chair) of the Downtown Development Commission from 1994 to 2005. James’ interests outside of architecture include music, dance, and the visual arts.

“Green” Building Design
by admin on Sep.16, 2009, under Architects and Architecture, Building and Design
With green building techniques gaining momentum, Chapel Hill and Carrboro Architects are focused on providingclients with an alternative to “conventional” construction techniques. By introducing our clients to the full range of options available to them, we tailor an outcome that is more efficient and sustainable within the scope of their project and their budget.
We believe that in time all building will be “green” and that consideration will always be given to the environmental impact of a project from the outset. To that end, we’ve chosen to offer our clients the full range of green alternatives first, especially where those options are cost competitive or equivalent to other less green options.
Today’s contractors and design professionals now have a powerful set of tools for producing a greener project. The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) has developed a rating system, Leadership in Energy and Evironmental Design, (LEED) that lays out basic green standards for new construction, renovation and the maintenance of existing buildings.
The LEED standard is a points based system that scores a given project on several areas of sustainability and establishes basic requirements for projects seeking LEED certification. These standards provide a useful framework for specifying smaller projects as well. Some important areas of concern include: water conservation, site management, energy efficiency and generation, materials and resources, indoor air quality.
This building philosophy fits particularly well in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, where our informed and “enlightened” clients care about an inherently greener approach that significantly reduces waste and wasteful energy usage.
